The Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) was formed in 1938 with the aim to recruit and train young men in aviation skills. Thousands flocked to join, paying 3d a week for education in flying as well as military skills. Originally organised and run locally, when war broke out, the Government took over and the initiative was relaunched on 5 February 1941 as the Air Training Corps (ATC).

The Gazette, the official magazine of the ADCC/ATC was launched in 1939. It is still published.

Boy's Own Paper 1941 - 1962

Boy's Own Paper was a British story paper aimed at young and teenage boys. It was established encourage boys to read, and to ingest good Christian morality at the same time.

The first edition was pubslihed 19 January 1879. Initially weekly it converted to a monthly publication from November 1913. The final edition was published in 1967, although Boys Own Annuals (initially simply bound collections of the weekly papers) continued through to 1976.

The Silver Jacket was an Australian boy's paper, first published in October 1953. 38 editions were published before it ceased publication in May 1956.

The first 8 editions, and the very first cover, included a serialisation of Biggles Works it Out.
